We will make use of observable genome/phenotype or genome/ecology correlations to uncover the biology and ecology of living ancestors through genomic reconstruction, thanks to the methods developed in WP1 and WP2, or specifically designed here. Two model taxa are targeted, namely placental mammals and prokaryotes, representative of two extreme time scales. We want to explore the ability of genomic data to reconstruct past life-history traits and environmental properties, compare our estimates to independent sources of information (e.g. paleontological or geological), and thus contribute to the description of major steps of the history of life on earth.
